THE INDUSTRIAL DESIGN AND THE MEDIA & INTERACTION DESIGN UNIT JOIN FOR A WORKSHOP OF THE TWO REMARKABLE DESIGNERS FROM LONDON!
SAM BUXTON
From the MIKRO series of fold-up sculptures to his electroluminesent tables and clocks, the work of the British product designer SAM BUXTON is dominated by his experiments with advanced materials and technologies.
Since graduating from London’s Royal College of Art in 1999, Buxton has been using advanced technologies to develop ingenious product designs. His inventions are based on versions of familiar objects, which often tell stories about contemporary life. Buxton’s desire to create an original business card was the starting point for the MIKROseries, depicting a simplified form of Buxton working on his computer. To date there are more than a dozen 3-D miniature tableux that capture moments in everyday life. Harnessing the electroluminescent technology commonly used in mobile phones and car dashboards Buxton also explores the relationship of the human body to surfaces and environments through his work Clone. With a successful range of MIKROworks under his belt, as well as a major project commission from Kenzo and recent installation in the Design Museum Tank, Buxton presents new works on 24-hour display in Object Gallery’s Window - with electroluminescence to guide the way.

ROGER IBARS
In July 2003 Roger Ibars graduated with a Master in Interaction Design from the Royal College of Art in London. Here he initiates a research interest in how objects would be loosing interest in interacting with the users. over the last 2 years he produced several projects around this discourse: a booklet, animated illustrations and objects installation that imagines self-made objects, a set of daily devices having self-reflection experiences of their functions. These projects were exhibited at the Royal College of Art in London (July 2003), in Digital hub in Dublin (July to October 2003) and will be in Madrid in La Casa Encendida (2004).
